today is tuesday, the day i have my weekly badminton session in tmn megah…the crowd from my company today is rather huge and so we had to take turns to play in that 1 miserable court…over the next few courts, i managed to spot a familiar face…my high school fren, Yeng Yee…havent seen him in ages, so i walked over to hav a chat with him and catch up with news and gossips…then we were interrupted by his collegues asking us to help out in playing as they didnt have enough of ppl to form a doubles game…so me and him played…come to think of it, i think this is the first time i have ever played with him since knowing him 10++ years ago…
we had a couple of good and exciting games, very relaxing yet satisfying…i glanced at the clock and it says 7.30pm..woookayyy…i have been playing since 6.30pm..so its time to go back to my own court now because around this time, most of my collegues would have worn out and getting ready to leave, which means the COURT IS EMPTY !!…so me and a few other guys played till 8.30pm and it was time to end the game cause our court is booked from 6.30 - 8.30pm onli..then we saw that the next group of ppl havent made it here yet so we continued playing…around 8.45pm, the next group came..we saw the next court was empty so we migrated there and played…around 9pm, the next court’s ppl were here too…find..we migrated to the next court again and finally finished our game @ 9-ish…
as we were about to leave that court, the occupant of the court asked us not to leave and continue playing because they are short of ppl to form a doubles game too….i still had energy left in me, so i agreed to it…eric was looking at me with his tired face and said …"chuan..still wanna play ar? i dont think i can run anymore la..i just hurt my knee just now"..looking over at the other end, our opponent was 1 male and 1 female…so i thought it was just gonna be a relaxing game and i said " ehh..relax la..its ok wan..just dont over do it, if u cant take the shot, dont take it..just hav fun and relax..u will be just fine" and he said "OK"…the female player was quite a babe…so we started playing and "SWOOOSHHHH !!!", the female player smashed !!….i was thinking.."whooaaaa…what the hell was that??? a KILLER BABE !!!..oooo my god !!..i havent seen 1 in ages !!!"..the male counterpart made equivalent smashing sound…
i looked at eric and in my heart i was thinking "sorry la eric..i think we gonna get our ass whooped man"..and i just smiled and laughed at him and he had similar expression indicating he understands and know what i m thinking about…and so i said.."lets have fun" and he said.." i think its a good idea too"…end of the game, we were whooped 15-5…i ended up having a good laugh and we said to each other.." that was a good rally and a good game"…eric said the same thing to me too…as i was warming down, the male counterpart walked over and asked us to have another game, eric couldnt go on so i partnered the KILLER BABE for a game…fuiyorrr..best man..up close and personal seeing her executing those killer moves…arghhhh..it was such a breathtaking view !!..i havent seen a killer babe in ages !!…i was simply amazed !!!
not long after that, i realized that i was panting for breath…i was thinking.."ehh, ah leng, relax la…dont kill urself over this KILLER BABE k??..focus on the game la..control ur hormones bit la…what a loser !!"…the game ended shortly and we won that set, me and the killer babe…wuuuuhuuuuuu…best !!!…as i sat down to relax, i began analyzing…why was i gasping for air???…its not that i have not been exercising lately…so i sat down @ one corner looking at them play…it wasnt too long that i began to realize…"oooooooooooo shit…these guys & killer babe are making me run the additional half a step everytime i retrieve their shot !!…"
as i sat down there thinking.."shit shit shit…" and so i had a memory flashback…once upon a time, when i was actively playing in high school..i was constantly bombarded with this statement.." CHUAN !! make your shot a 2.5 steps shot !!..stop being lazy and move your big ass!!!"….everytime i get shouted at, i would swear.."F***, i hate 2.5 steps shot !!"…the logic behind 2.5 steps shot is this…it is easy to execute badminton skill of Shot A…and to retrieve Shot A assuming that it was hit to Location B, from the center of the court, you would probably need to travel 2 Steps to make it to Location B and retrieve Shot A..what makes Shot A a "beautiful" and "deadly" shot is when you positioned it in Location B in such a way that it forces your opponent to travel 2.5 Steps from the center of the court to retrieve it ( an additional 0.5 steps )…..
and these ppl i have been playing for the past 1 hour has been doing exactly that !!!…goshhh..i m so slow in figuring it out !!…the fact that this was happening got me all hyped up and excited !!…the next 1 game i played with them was exactly the same..every shot i m forced to take with an additional 0.5 steps !!..i soon got high and got the kick out of retrieving shots of 2.5 Steps….of course, out of 10, i probably succeeded less than 5 times…its been 10++ bloody years man…reflexes are all gone, legs, arms and mind wont coordinate and function as 1…and most importantly, arm muscles and wrist arent executing the proper shots !! but the kick out of these few games were simply amazing and cannot be described by words…by the time i was done..it was already 10.30pm..i have played for about 4 hours of badminton game by now…
but its worth all the sore muscles that i m goin to get tomorrow…y??..cause this group of ppl here today reminded me of how this beautiful game is supposed to be played !!…simple routine shots made beautiful and deadly simply by placing it in a spot that will make the opponent run the additional 0.5 steps…i remember now..how it used to be n how that used to felt..playing a beautiful game with beautiful yet deadly simple shots..
dont know if i will get to play with them again next week since i was just an additional "leg" they needed to form a doubles game…however, if i m given the chance to do so…i will try my best and play "beautifully"…certainly today i made myself looked like a beginner..i dont think i qualify even as a novice after playing today’s badminton with these group of ppl…i will improve..i will re-string my racquet, i will get new grip, i will get new shoes…GANBATE !!!…thank you guys, thank you killer babe..for reminding me..i remember clearly now
